I, like many of you, were watching the Presidential inauguration on January 20, 2021. I was sitting in front of a tray of gemstones, piecing together some fresh looks for spring. Feeling optimistic, I was playing with bright colors, thinking of the red, yellow and blues of scarlet macaws and the Pantone colors of the year, yellow and grey.
Then, poet Amanda Gorman came on the TV and recited her poem, "The Hill We Climb". It was so powerful and moving, I was in awe of her presence. This young woman, only 22, summarized our country's struggle AND it's path to healing, all in her poem. She was on one of the biggest stages in the world, resplendent in a bright yellow coat, red headband over her braids, set against the blue of the presidential platform. I looked at my gems and knew I HAD to make these earrings!
Inspired by Amanda Gorman, my Scarlet Macaw Earrings feature pink and yellow sapphires along with blue kyanite drops. I will donate 25% of sales of these earrings to UNICEF which helps children all over the world with education until 2/14/21 and then to the WRITEGIRL program (which Amanda Gorman participated in) through 2021.
I hope you love these earrings as much as I do!
